CHANNEL 13’S KEITH MURPHY TO HOST IOWA’S OFFICIAL OLYMPIC SEND-OFF

Iowa Olympians Shawn Johnson and Lolo Jones to be honored Monday, July 14 at Iowa Events Center

Event free and open to public starting at noon inside Wells Fargo Arena

Sports Director Keith Murphy to emcee athletes final Iowa appearances prior to Beijing Olympics

DES MOINES, IA – Lolo Jones and Shawn Johnson both leave Iowa next week to complete their training for the Olympics…Lolo in Europe, Shawn in Texas.  But before they go, they’ll appear together so central Iowan’s can wish them well and show them the love.  It’s “Shawn and Lolo: An Olympic Sendoff”…happening Monday (7/14) at noon at the Iowa Events Center’s Wells Fargo Arena.  The public is not only welcome but encouraged to attend this free celebration.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Iowans and an opportunity to show these women how proud we are of them,” says WHO-TV Sports Director Keith Murphy.  “Shawn and Lolo are not just great athletes they’re also great people which makes this moment even sweeter.”

The Isisirettes will rock the house, Iowa icon Simon Estes will sing the national anthem, attendees will enjoy highlights from the Olympic trials on the video boards, and both Shawn and Lolo will appear, speak, and announce a surprise or two.
