METEOROLOGIST BRETT McINTYRE JOINS CHANNEL 13 NEWS

Iowa State graduate joins Channel 13’s team of certified meteorologists

McIntyre to anchor weekend evening and noon weekday weathercasts

McIntyre to add even more frequent local weather updates on Iowa’s Weather Plus

DES MOINES, IA – WHO-TV announced today that Meteorologist Brett McIntyre has joined Channel 13’s team of certified meteorologist.  The Iowa State grad will primarily anchor weekend evening and noon weekday weathercasts.

McIntyre earned a degree in Meteorology and another degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from Iowa State University. He was born and raised in Ft. Dodge, Iowa.

“We’re so fortunate to have another Iowa native join our team of meteorologists,” says WHO-TV News Director Rod Peterson.  “Brett joins Grundy Center’s own Ed Wilson and Melvin, Iowa’s own Jeriann Ritter.  It’s that native Iowa perspective that is invaluable especially during Iowa’s severe weather.”

“I’m thrilled about this great opportunity to work at a station that I grew up with and respect,” says McIntyre.  “I also can’t wait to get out and chase severe weather across the state.  It’s not only a thrill but also a key part of keeping people safe.”

McIntyre was chasing storms in northern Iowa on Sunday, May 30th this year…the day that Parkersburg was devastated by a huge EF-5 tornado.  He was one of the first people into town just after the destruction and helped notify authorities about the severity of the damage.

“That will be a day that I will never forget,” recalls McIntyre.  “It also cemented why I decided to become a meteorologist.  The sheer force of mother nature and ongoing need for early detection and warning.  It certainly saved many lives in Parkersburg that day.”

In addition, McIntyre’s duties also include broadcasting even more local weather updates Iowa’s Weather Plus…the 24/7 all-weather channel.  Iowa’s Weather Plus can be seen free over-the-air on digital channel 13.2, Mediacom Digital Channel 246 and streaming live <http://www.whotv.com/Global/link.asp?L=313142>  on the “Weather” page at www.WHOtv.com <http://www.whotv.com/> .
