NEARLY 49,000 IOWA STATE FAIR VISITORS “CAST YOUR KERNEL” FOR PRESIDENT

Fair visitors dropped a kernel of corn in the Mason jar of their favorite Presidential candidate

Obama barely edges McCain with 50.92% of the kernels cast

DES MOINES, IA – WHO-TV Channel 13, Des Moines’ NBC Affiliate, welcomed nearly 49,000 Iowa State Fair visitors at its “Cast A Kernel” headquarters to vote for their favorite presidential candidate. Each person who stopped was given one kernel of corn to place in the Mason jar of his favorite Presidential candidate. In the end, Democratic candidate Barrack Obama edged Republican candidate John McCain with 50.92% of the kernels cast.

“We were frankly surprised not only by the turnout but also by the enthusiasm of the voters,“ says Channel 13 News political reporter Dave Price. “In fact, we witnessed a few family squabbles start over how they cast their kernel. No telling now how Iowa will vote come November.”

In all, 48,865 kernels of corn were dropped into Mason jars between 9am to 9pm, August 7 through 17th at the Iowa State Fair.
